C-SPAN Discussion on Extremism and Domestic Terrorism

New America hosted a virtual discussion on extremism and domestic terrorism in the wake of the attack on the U.S. Capitol by supporters of President Trump. Experts in national security and extremist movements provided their thoughts on what conditions led to the attack and how law enforcement and political leaders could address the extreme elements of the movement. The experts largely agreed that the underlying ideology of the movement is complicated and there are various contributing factors, including a rise in propaganda, online misinformation and conspiracy theories, as well as economic, social, and religious elements.
